The teams who visited Zambia in 2015 & 2018 were given permission by the authorities to enter prisons in the country and on each occasion up to 10 prisons were visited. We were not allowed to take phones or cameras into any of the prisons but there are photos on the Internet, in the public domain, which are the ones we have used here.
The Alpha Course is seen as a valuable contribution in the transformation of character and this has been acknowledged by the Zambian government as a “correctional tool.” Pastor Paul Swala is the Alpha Coordinator for Prisons in Zambia and works with the Chaplain General for Prisons, Rev Sam Zulu and his team of Prison Chaplains to deliver the Alpha Course in as many of the prisons as possible. Alpha has now been run in 53 of the 58 prisons in Zambia.
